A fair for artists
START has been established as a fair for artists. Not only is the fair designed to support artists by providing them with a platform to exhibit their work to an international audience at an early stage in their career, but it gives art buyers and the general public the opportunity to meet the artists whose work is on display. It is these aspects that distinguish it from many of the more established fairs.
START is pleased to announce a selection of the artists who have been confirmed as attending the fair, which includes both the artists who will be exhibiting with Azerbaijani Yay Gallery. Nazrin Mammadova’s work [pictured above] in the fair references the magnificent Caucasus Mountains that dominate Azerbaijan, interlacing photographs of them with saturated hues and artificial materials, in order to comment on the rapid modernisation Azerbaijan has undergone in the last 20 years. An eloquent and exciting young artist, Mammadova is able to offer a unique insight into her work in person.
One half of Preteen and Arcadia Missa’s joint booth, artist Jesse Darling of Arcadia Missa will be at the fair. Her work explores the notion of the self in an internet age, queer visibility and neoliberalism and postcolonial constructions – themes which are also apparent in Preteen artist Luis Miguel Bendaña’s work.

Jody Paulsen will be travelling from Cape Town where he is represented by BRUNDYN+. The artist works in the distinctive medium of felt to create vibrant “felt poster” collages. Turkish artist Güler Ates will be exhibiting with Mumbai gallery The LOFT at Lower Parel, and MERKUR (Istanbul)’s booth will present a solo show by female artist Şeyda Cesur who will be attending with the gallery.
