Khaas Gallery (Islamabad)
Khaas Gallery’s repertoire is contemporary, with a focus on emerging to mid-career Pakistani artists who have gained critical acclaim. Zishan Afzal Khan, a prominent art collector in Islamabad, is Owner and Chief Curator of Khaas. She expanded her team in 2009-10 with Curators Babar Gull and Alia Bilgrami who are also practicing visual artists. Assistant Curator Shameen Arshad joined the team in 2016. Apart from many career-changing solo exhibitions, significant projects that come to mind are: Converging Lines, a unique drawing portfolio – the first of its kind in Pakistan; Rebel Angel, a monograph launch, 2014 on the late Asim Butt whose last solo show took place at Khaas and Prince Claus Award winning artist Naiza H. Khan’s solo exhibition and monograph launch, The Weight of Things, 2014. At Art15, London, Khaas showcased a microcosm of Pakistani contemporary art using the late Zubeida Agha’s paintings as a starting point. She is widely acknowledged as the pioneer of modernist painting in Pakistan. Khaas was instrumental in reviving an interest in this great artist’s legacy. Khaas Gallery’s primary ethos is to consistently promote the furtherance of new and contemporary art in Pakistan.
