Hanoi-born artist Vuong Van Thao achieved international recognition with his series “Bodies and Dreams” in 2001. He unveiled his sculpture series “Living Fossils” in 2006, featuring miniature models of houses, electrical poles, etc. cast in solid composite resin in a fossil-like form. In 2007, he was invited to exhibit 68 artworks from the series at the Singapore Art Museum, and nominated as one of the best ten outstanding artists in the Southeast Asian region. Since 2007, Thao has focused on furthering his “Living Fossils” concept - “Fossils are dead entities. Yet what was fossilized will exist forever. It will become evidence of a certain historical period, reflecting the collective experience of the contemporary society at the time.”
