SMO Contemporary Art specializes in showcasing cutting edge art in non-traditional exhibition spaces, focusing on artists based in Africa and the Diaspora. SMO holds contemporary art exhibitions that showcase masters and exciting new talent, and is committed to using the full range of artistic expression to inspire and strengthen humanity’s aspiration for the good society.
Started in 2009, SMO is invested in presenting art in new exhibition spaces frequented by a diverse local and international public, helping to increase art appreciation. SMO curates and hosts quarterly art events at the Wheatbaker boutique hotel in Ikoyi, as well as at Temple Muse, a leading design and luxury concept store in Lagos. Its first exhibition at the National Museum, Lagos is expected later this year.
SMO Contemporary Art is proud to present three of Nigeria’s most exciting emerging artists, Olumide Onadipe, Nengi Omuku and Ngozi Omeje. These contemporary artists present an avant garde perspective on identity, migration, time, and mental health, seen from a refreshing African viewpoint.
